The European Academy of Forensic Science Conference will be held from 27 to 31 August 2018 in the Cité Centre de Congrès in Lyon: 50 quai Charles de Gaulle, 69463 Lyon.

Getting to Lyon, Cité Internationale or The Lyon Convention Centre is easy: there are various means of transport available.

About Lyon

Lyon is a center of excellence in security. The city hosts the headquarters of the two actors of forensics in the French Police and the National Police College which trains executives. At the International level, the General Secretariat of the ICPO - INTERPOL organizes every 3 years the International Forensic Science Managers Symposium, a key event for laboratory managers of from INTERPOL countries across the world.

Capital of the Gauls (Lugdunum and Roman relics) and of the gastronomy, Lyon is also well known for the silk factories, the beginnings of Lumière brothers’ cinema, Antoine de St Exupéry and his Little Prince and also the riverboats "Bateaux-Mouche" (yes, they are from Lyon !) to name just a few examples of its dynamism.

Lyon can easily be reached:

  • by plane as it is served by an international airport:  27 French cities connected by daily, scheduled flights, 43 scheduled international flights, 19 charter routes and 7 cargo routes
  • -> Express tramway between Lyon St Exupéry airport and the Part Dieu TGV train station
  • by train: 2 hours from Paris, 1½ hours from Marseille, 4 hours from Brussels
  • by car: 4 hours from Paris, 3 hours from Turin, 5 hours from Barcelona

The Lyon Cité Centre de Congrès is easily accessible:

  • by car, situated close to the Lyon Périphérique Nord (Northern Ring Road), car parks available under the Convention Center
  • by local city bus: 3 bus and trolley lines linked directly to the Métro, TGV station and City Centre (lines C1, C4, C5 – the station is called “Musée d’Art Contemporain”)
  • by bicycle: 6 Vélo’v stations (pushbike rental) within easy reach

Simultaneous translation (English & French) will be provided to the participants for plenary sessions only.

Gala Dinner - Thursday August 30, 2018 at Palais de la Bourse

Imposing, grandiose, this Palace built in the heart of Lyon city remained unchanged from 19th century. It is today the seat of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Lyon. The Palais de la Bourse architecture and decoration will be the shrine for the EAFS 2018 Gala Dinner.

Evening starts : 8:00pm

Price: 84€ including VAT

=> No transportation will be organised by the Conference

=> Public transportation is available - C5 Bus: around 15 minutes

=> Walking distance: 40 minutes



A name badge will be provided with your registration documents on site (and not mailed out prior to the Conference).



Climate and clothing

The weather in Lyon in August is usually sunny with daily temperatures ranging from 20°C to 27°. 
Night temperatures are usually very mild.

ALL RATES given in the programme are in EUROS: €



Electricity used in France is 220 Volts; its frequency is 50 Hz and the plugs have two male contact points. 
Plan to bring a transformer for your electrical or electronic equipment using different voltage.


Exhibition and Sponsorship

A scientific and technical exhibition will be open from Wednesday to Friday to forensic science companies, manufacturers of materials and equipment and scientific publishers. It will be held in the Conference Venue.

Insurance & Liability

The Organizers will accept no liability for personal injuries sustained by or for loss or damage to property belonging to Conference participants, either during or as a result of the Conference or during all events.

Participants are strongly recommended to seek insurance coverage for health and accident, lost luggage and trip cancellation.

Lunches and coffee breaks are included in the registration fees.
